Self proclaimed 'Dirty Hippy Entrepreneur', Emerald (NZ) is a Melbourne based rapper/singer/producer with intricate flows and conscious, resonating lyrics delivered with her powerful yet quintessentially laid back kiwi presence. She pushes boundaries with a refreshing fusion of musical influences, a graviton to controversial topics and the unapologetic presence of a woman holding her own on the mic.
After relocating to Melbourne in 2015 Emerald quickly became an active member of the hip hop scene with her solo project 'Emerald', a group project 'Indigo Rising' fronted by 3 female vocalists, an independent events brand 'Emerald Hip Hop Sessions' focusing on encouraging positivity and equality in the music scene, a regular hosting position at popular freestyle rap night 'Can I Kick it?’ and the booking and promoting for monthly event 'All You Can Spit' featuring major national and international headliners.
Emerald has toured Australasia, Canada and America, performing at festivals such as Twisted Frequency, Manifest, The Town, Resonance Karamea and supported artists such as NZ hip hop pioneers Upper Hut Posse, Scribe, Raiza Biza, Tell (Mantra + Grey ghost), L-Fresh the Lion, N'fa Jones, and artists from acclaimed UK label High focus.
Emerald recently released an EP 'Amalgamation' with DJ Kayboku and collaborators which NZ Musicians Magazine describes as: "Absolutely delectable. Proper urban – not black, not white, but various colours of the world."
Emerald continues to engage audiences and build the community with her DIY, trailblazing approach. She lives to create, collaborate and support developing talent to help enrich Melbourne's world renowned music culture.
